Vintage Tibetan Dzi Bead Necklace
Dimensions: Approx. 70cm length, 1cm diameter bead
Dzi stones made their first appearance between 2000 and 1000 BC, in ancient India; a few hundred thousand were supposedly brought back by Tibetan soldiers from Persia during a raid. The artisans who made the dzi created amulets with "eyes" on them as a means to counteract the "evil eye" and as a form of protection. Artisans originally used agate as the base stone, and then embellished the beads' lines and shapes. In Tibetan culture these beads are believed to attract local protectors or deities.
Note this piece includes the necklace and a separate Dzi stone bead (55mmx 20mm)
