Late 1800’s Velvet Embroidered Drawstring Pouch
Dimensions : Approx. 23cm x 16 cm
Why we love it: On a crisp morning, at an antique market in the Belgian countryside, we found this velvet bag nestled amongst other antique treasures and fell madly in love with it and had to bring it home.
There are just some pieces that speak or rather whisper a story that lies beyond language.
When you hold the weight of this delicate pouch; feeling its worn threads, left behind by hands that lovingly stitched and embroidered the now faded velvet, you are moved in ways you can’t explain. The way colours have bled, and the years have left traces. Leaving questions unanswered. Who made it? Who carried it and cared for it these past 150 years or more? As you cradle these secrets; this fragile, ephemeral, beautiful thing, you are reminded that sometimes, fidelity to beauty is the answer. The love after the love.
Almost too fragile for everyday use (unless you remove the lining and replace it – or not) this is an exquisite piece of textural history to have and to hold to delight your eye and soul.
Notes - All of our vintage pieces are in good working condition (unless noted otherwise) and show patina consistent with age, which adds to their beauty and character and is not considered a defect. Please carefully consider all the item's images as they form part of our description and also note that our vintage pieces are not refundable given their fragility and cost of shipping.
