Madeleine Vaury 1930’s Original Oil Painting - Vase of Flowers
Dimensions – Approx. 74x54cm
Why we love it -
On our recent travels through the south of France we had the great pleasure of discovering the work of oil painter Madeleine Vaury, who we came to learn sought shelter in France between the world wars and painted and exhibited throughout the 1930’s. The natural world was her subject, and her style was revered for its beauty, faithful renderings and disdain for artifice, which imbued her works with both delicacy and strength. This beautiful floral canvas was one of a dozen of Vaury’s works uncovered in the dusty cellar of a French house, where they had lain undisturbed for almost a century. It is signed by the artist on the reverse. Before we brought it home from France, we had the canvas gently cleaned by a specialist and watched mesmerised as the colours of the flowers emerged as if they were sleeping beauties - not only waking but blooming back to life. We’re so honoured to offer this glorious painting for sale and to share a few photos of it in France and some archival papers relating to Madeleine’s work.
Notes - All of our vintage pieces are in good working condition (unless noted otherwise) and show patina consistent with age, which adds to their beauty and character and is not considered a defect. Please carefully consider all the item images as they form part of our description and note that our vintage pieces are not refundable given their fragility and cost of shipping.
