Why we love it: 

We sourced this dreamy soft vintage mud cloth in a fabric tent inside the medina of Marrakesh, brought it back to Sydney and searched for an equally gorgeous backing fabric and found a cotten / linen denim hued beauty. So it’s an LAL original; storied and sensual in every sense. Beautiful alone or layered with any number of our eclectic cushion range.

Mud cloth is traditionally from West Africa and is made by weaving cotton into strips which are then dyed with local natural materials. Mud is painted on to make a pattern which then protects the cotton from further colour treatment, a bit like tie dye. The finished strips are sun dried , the mud chipped off to reveal the colour underneath, and then hand sewn together to make the fabric for the front of the cushions
