Why we love it
Anyone who creates such beauty and articulates their craft like this ‘Working with glass means embroidering the molten material and telling tomorrow with yesterday’s gestures. It is a matter of paradoxes and poetry: beautiful, fiery, and resolutely Mediterranean.’ is for us!
Meet French glassmakers La Verrerie de Biot, who have created bubble glass since 1956 by using a technique where the bubble is mastered and imprisoned in between two layers of glass. This way, a defect (the bubble) is transformed into a feature of quality requiring a great deal of skills from the artisan.
These three pieces circa 1970s are a great example of that. The amber colour glows beautifully and reflects the light gloriously. There is a fissure within the glass near the decanters handle - otherwise the pieces are in good vintage condition, for use or display and bear the Biot maker’s mark. Styled here on our marble Calacatta scallop tray
Disclaimer - All of our vintage pieces are in good working condition (unless noted otherwise) and show patina consistent with age, which adds to their beauty and character and is not considered a defect.
